This Qualification is not suitable for moving water environments.

This course is 3 days hosted at Netherton Open Water Swimming, DY2 0HL

OWL Course Prerequisites:

Every candidate attending an OWL course must:

  • Be competent and confident in open water
  • Be able to submerge under the water confidently
  • Before the course, candidates must be able to swim at least 400 metres in a pool/ open water swimming continuously on their front and show urgency.

Course Content

The Open Water Lifeguard Qualification, delivered over three days, is valid for two years and is independently assessed. The candidate manual and trainer resources help the Open Water Lifeguard Trainer Assessor deliver through the three sections:

  • Section 1 - The Open Water Lifeguard, environment, hazards and supervision
  • Section 2 - Responding to an emergency and taking action
  • Section 3 - CPR and First Aid

Course Assessment

The OWL course syllabus and practical skills are continually assessed by the course trainer and a suitable level of competence must be achieved to be put forward for a final independent assessment.

The assessment will include verbal question and answer sessions, practical demonstrations of water rescue skills, CPR and First Aid

It is recommended that lifeguards engage in continuous training to ensure they are ready for duty and renewal.

Please ensure you can attend all three dates before booking this course
