Course Prerequisites:

• 18+ of age on the day of assessment 
• Hold a current Licence to Operator Membership to the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS UK). 
• Hold a full qualification that matches the RLSS UK qualification that they wish to train others in (e.g. to become a Open Water Swimming Lifeguard Qualification (NPLQ) Trainer Assessor, you must hold a full Open Water Lifeguard qualification.

Course Content

The  Qualification, delivered over 5 days, is valid for life providong the Open Water Lifeguard qialifacation is indate.

The candidate manual and trainer resources help the Open Water Lifeguard Trainer Assessor deliver through the three sections:

Days 1-3 = TA Core Qualification 

Each candidate is required to complete a 3-day TA Core qualification which includes three modules and allows them to become a Probationary RLSS UK Trainer Assessor for AED. 

• Module 1: Train the Trainer (1 day) 
• Module 2: Train the Assessor (1 day) 
• Module 3: CPR and AED (1 day) 

Days 4+ = Qualification Specialism 

Typically, Trainer Assessor courses are run to qualify candidates as new TAs in a particular course (e.g. OWL) and can easily become qualified as a TA for other qualifications/specialisms in the future and you don’t need to redo the TA Core qualification each time. 

Successfull Pass of your Trainer Assessor Course 

After completing an RLSS UK Trainer Assessor course, you will then become a Probationary Trainer Assessor (PTA) and will be supported by a National Trainer Assessor (NTA) or a Mentor in delivering your first trainer course and first assessor course.  

A PTA's probationary period is a maximum of two years. If a PTA does not successfully complete their probationary period they will need to requalify as a PTA by redoing the appropriate specialism course.

After successfully completing your probationary period, you will become a fully qualified Trainer Assessor. After becoming a TA, you can continue to receive ongoing support from other NTAs and Mentors via RLSS UK’s Support Finder as well as from other Trainer Assessors in the dedicated private Facebook group.
